20 Posts for 20 Years Series – Post #12
53 participants. 17 years. 11 National Opportunities.
Over the past 20 years we have sent 53 different participants to 11 different National Opportunities. If you do the math, we’re averaging 3.1 participants a year attending National Opportunities. That’s incredible.
Our participants have represented us in the best of ways while attending and being recognized through these opportunities. We have had 9 participants play at Pebble Beach Golf Links in what is now The PURE Insurance Championship Impacting The First Tee. 16 participants have attended what is now The Joe Louis Barrow, Jr. Life Skills and Leadership Academy. In the last five years, alone, we have had two young people named Outstanding Participants. And we have even been represented at the oldest Caddy Camp in America at Sankaty Head Golf Club.
The numbers on this one speak for themselves, but we figured we’d leave you with a quote from a very special alum, who just happens to be one of those Outstanding Participants.
“Participating in National Opportunities was one of my favorite parts of being in The First Tee. The best part about them was being able to befriend people from all around the country. There is something really cool about getting to learn about someone’s life experiences and sharing similarities and values with them even though they might live somewhere completely different than you. I love how compassionate everyone is too, every person in The First Tee really cares about you, not just the people from your chapter. That’s what makes it more than a network, but a First Tee family.” -Lauren Mead
