Fishing Clinic on the Anacostia River

Aquatic Resources Education Center (Anacostia Park) and Boat Dock

1900 Anacostia Drive, SE (North end inside of Anacostia Park)

Happy Summer LPGA-USGA Girls!  We’re celebrating our second annual Fishing Clinic on the Anacostia River.  Here’s your chance to learn more about our river system and how to fish in our waterways. Our river systems are great places to fish and to enjoy lots of river activities.

Our group will meet at the Aquatic Resource Education Center (AREC) next door to the Anacostia Pavilion.  Inside we’ll have an hour long tour of this amazing facility complete with animals found in and around the Anacostia watershed.  This mini-aquarium features species indigenous to our river including fish, turtles, lizards, and more.  Learn more about how to care for our environment and how we can make our river a place to enjoy for a lifetime.  Bring your camera for great photos of the tour!

After our tour we’ll gather with angling instructors ready to teach us how to use the gear, how to bait our hook and how to successfully snag a fish!  The method of catch-and-release will be shown along with safety precautions and see first hand what kinds of fish are taking the bait!

Fishing gear, bait and instructions are included.  Children 15 years and younger do not need a fishing license to fish.  Everyone 16 years and older must have a valid fishing license to fish.  Families can also bring their lawn chair and their own gear to fish from the river side after the event.  Bring snacks, a water bottle, sunscreen and bug spray.  Be comfortable and wear light clothing.  We’ll take a group photo before we leave!

You must register for this event.  The event is limited to 12 girls.  Registration begins Monday, July 1.
